No, no, this doesn’t mean I’m any better. In fact the upcoming surgery and all the logistics (and money) involved have shot my anxiety through the roof, and as a result depression and SI decided to join that party. So I’m a mess.

BUT

Thinking about anesthesia. When you’re coming out of it, or after you’ve been to the dentist and had laughing gas, you say funny things. Go to YouTube and with a quick search you can see countless kids and adults in the backseat of the minivan babbling away about nonsensical things. However, they say poignant and honest things completely unfiltered, from the heart.

Which got me thinking – could you ask yourself questions and get brutally honest answers that you don’t even know how to answer when “sober”? Like “Which Star Wars movie is your favorite?” I would think a bit and probably talk about the different trilogies and go on and on before deciding on the Empire Strikes Back. Because it’s the best one.

But medically high me? I think I would immediately blurt out “Episode one because the battle droids were funny.” That is NOT something I would say in public. It’s a funny example, and yeah I guess I do like the battle droids and the scene with the grass waving in the wind. Also Keira Knightly. You didn’t know she was in that, did you?

So here is the question: What are the questions?

If I recall correctly, my sister will be in the room when I get out of the OR, and I could give her a list of a couple questions for her to ask. She could write the answers, or more horrifying she could video my responses. Would I really tell the unvarnished truth? I’m really good with filters and masks, so I’m not sure.

But the question is still: What are the questions?

You don’t want to be asked anything that will let babbling and drooling you go down the wrong path and tell everyone about the dungeon you have under your house, and how many people are chained up in it. Or anything about family members, because they’re likely to see or hear about this experiment. You have silly things like “What is your favorite color” or “What do you hate about vegetables?” But you could go serious and ask something like “Who do you want to be?” or as I just mistyped on the previous question “Why do you want to be?” You could double down on my other favorite question: “What brings you joy?”

What would your questions be? What would you like to be honest with about yourself?
